Game of Chess

Chess is just a game. Real people aren't pieces. And you can't assign more value to some of them than to others. People are not a thing that you can sacrifice. The lesson is that anyone who looks on the world as if it was a game of chess deserves to lose.

Harold Finch from Person of Interest "If-Then-Else"

Throughout existence, I think human history has been a grand game of chess. Although I wish the world could follow Finch’s philosophy in this quote, this is not the reality we live in. Those in power, and even those without power, have assigned different levels of value to everyone else. They have sacrificed people or used them like game pieces. Unfortunately, I think this trend will last until the end of time, unless something can change. I think that this quote exemplifies Harold Finch’s character. He wants to help everyone, no matter how much value is placed on them by society; that is why he created the machine to help those in need.
