Sake of An Angel

One may tolerate a world of demons for the sake of an angel.

Madame de Pompadour from Doctor Who "The Girl in the Fireplace”

It is amazing how much the support and love of one person can make the ugliness of the world seem so small. It doesn't matter if this person is a friend, family member, partner, or just a hero as long as they touch your heart.

You Feed the Gossip

If you answer the gossip, you feed the gossip.

J.K. Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child”

In this age of technology it is so hard to battle the disturbing gossiping, bullying, and stalking that occurs each day on the Internet. It is hard to tell whether it is more effective to completely ignore all of the gossip and bullying, or if it is better to speak up and bring attention to it. Unfortunately, victims of these types of crimes and injustices can face bad consequences no matter what avenue they pursue.

Make it Major

Something about that glory, just always seemed to bore me. cause only those I really love will ever really know me. I only see my goals, I dont believe in failure, cause I know the smallest voices, they can make it major.

Lukas Graham in “7 Years”

I think this quote is saying that the glory of being a celebrity is not important because your fans may be devoted to you, but in a smaller capacity than your friends and family, whose bond is built up with time spent with you. Also if small voices do not persist in their message, they won't be heard.

Guardian is but a Name

Guardian is but a name. The true guardians of this world are the people themselves.

Alodi from "Warcraft: The Beginning"

In life there's not always going to be a hero or a savior to protect the populace from danger. Sometimes it's up to the people to do that for themselves. It is amazing what can be done when many minds and voices come together.

Always Mercy

Which side are you on? Are you the enemy?
I'm not sure that any of that matters; friends, enemies. So long as there's mercy. Always mercy.

Davros and the Doctor from Doctor Who "The Witch's Familiar"

In history there have been moments in conflicts where both sides stop their fighting and come together, like the Christmas truce of 1914. These moments are so wonderful because it shows these men as human beings rather than as soldiers and enemies. It showed that even in times of unimaginable events, there can still be mercy.

Classic or Uninspired?

There’s a fine line between classic and uninspired.

A. Lee Martinez in “Helen & Troy’s Epic Road Quest”

There are an unlimited supply of traditions in the world. Some of these traditions are wonderful representations of a culture, a race, a family, or an individual. Others are examples of hatred and depravity. And yet there are some traditions that are just overused and unimportant.

Don't Bring Me Down

I am beautiful, no matter what they say. Words can't bring me down. So don't you bring me down today.

Christina  Aguilera in "Beautiful"

Unfortunately, we often build our self confidence and self worth based on the perceptions of others. This is a mistake that only hurts us. There are too many opinions and misperceptions to genuinely value ourselves.

Answers Right In Front

Sometimes we search too hard for answers that are right in front of us.

Kelly Garrett in "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle"

It seems very common to be so focused and obsessed over finding an answer we think is unobtainable that we don't realize the solution is staring us in the face. I think in these situations its best to walk completely away from a problem and wait some time before we come back to it with fresher eyes.

What Good Leadership Is

Good leaders care about the people they lead. That's what good leadership is.

Nina from The Librarians "And the Self-Fulfilling Prophecy"

In celebration of Presidents' Day, I felt this quote was appropriate. A good leader must genuinely care about their charges in order to provide the best experience for their charges. I think a leader should have strength, courage, and conviction, but should also be compassionate, open minded and approachable.

How Can You Tell the Difference

How can you tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys when they say the same things?

Sherman Alexie in "Flight" audiobook

With any debate or philosophy, there is always two sides. Each individual or group thinks they are right or they truly believe they have a righteous cause. That's the hard part of trying to decide who is right.

We're Pioneers

They're pious here, but you and I, we're pioneers. Let em sell what they are selling, there are no buyers here. We will leave the empty chairs to those who say we can't sit there, we're fine all by ourselves. We will find our way or we'll make a way.

Alessia Cara in "Wild Things"

It is easy to follow the flock, to be just like everyone else, but if you really want to be a pioneer you have to follow a different path. You may be alienated but that makes the beginnings of the best stories.

How Many New Lives?

How many new lives can we have? As many as we like, while we can.

Evelyn Greenslade from "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

In life, it is hard to know how many new opportunities we may have, but that should not stop us from seizing these new chances. I think to seize all opportunities means that you learn from your mistakes, no matter how many mistakes you make.

Courage is the Passport

Courage is the passport when your old world disappears. But there's no future in the past.

The Celtic Woman in “The New Ground Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears”

When you enter into a new environment or experience, courage is the only way you can move forward. If you are too overwhelmed by fear or your past, then you will have no future.

Fragile Yet Strong

Flowers may look fragile and yet some, like the Lotus that only thrives in mud, withstand the most brutal of environments to beautify a world that has tried its best to destroy them.

Sherrilyn Kenyon and Dianna Love in "Blood Trinity" audiobook

It is a sad fact that some individuals with a beautiful appearance or a beautiful soul are abused. People think they can possess others because of their beauty or they have a right to abuse them simply because of jealousy. However, some of these beautiful individuals withstand this abuse and still let their beauty shine to be an example for others.

Who We Want

It's always changing, who we're supposed to love and who we're not. The only thing that stays the same is that we want who we want.

Ellaria Sand from Game of Thrones "The Dance of Dragons"

Love is a very mysterious thing; there is no explanation as to why we are attracted to a certain physical appearance or why out of the millions of people in the world, we bond with one specific individual. We can accept our love without any explanation, but that does not mean others will do the same. That is why we must hold strong to our love because we are the ones who deal with the consequences of the decisions of our lives.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Learning from the Past

You cannot change the past but I daresay you might learn something from it.

Time from "Alice Through the Looking Glass"

It is amazing how there is so little time in life, but many of us believe that we have more of it. That is why I think it is so important to learn from your mistakes so that you do not have to waste time making the same mistakes over and over again.

Less Friction in Life

I've found that the more I accept myself the less friction I have in the rest of my life and the less stressed and unhappy I am.

Cate Tiernan in "Book of Shadows" audiobook

If you are unhappy with yourself, then you will be unhappy with all your decisions, which will cause you stress. I think that peace of mind comes with having confidence in yourself and your decisions, otherwise you will always be clashing with your own mind.

Express Yourself

Whatever you do, do it good. See it's not what you look like when you doing what you doing. Express yourself.

Labrinth in "Express Yourself"

Expressing yourself can often put you in the spotlight, especially when you are very passionate about your opinion or others are very passionate about the subject you are discussing. I think the main thing to remember is that it is important that you feel passionate about what you are speaking about and that it can help the good of others. Although it is very vital to remember that your words can have very lasting effects, so think long and hard before you speak.

Four or Five Moments

Four or five moments, that's all it takes. To be a hero. Everyone thinks it's a full time job.  Not true. Over a lifetime, there are only four or five moments that really matter. Moments when you're offered a choice; to make a sacrifice, conquer a flaw, save a friend, spare an enemy.

Colossus from "Deadpool"

It's hard to be good all the time. We all have bad moments when we are not at our best. The thing we have to remember is that there are monumental moments that define the future and it is in these moments that we have to make a choice on who we want to be.

Live Up to It

If you're uncomfortable with an honor you don't deserve, live up to it.

Farah Nazan from Heroes Reborn "June 13th, Part 2"

Whether accidentally or intentionally, we sometimes are given an attribute or honor that we did not earn. I think the best way to earn that honor is to do a good deed.

Hero in Secret

The mark of the true hero is that the most heroic of his deeds is done in secret. We never hear of it. And yet somehow we know.

Erika Johansen in "The Queen of the Tearling“ audiobook

It is always nice to get recognition for good deeds, but I think the best people are those who do good deeds not for the praise but for the simple fact they are helping others. Not to diminish good deeds done for praise. In my opinion, any good deed done should at least be a little appreciated because not many people will do good deeds at all.

I'm Lost at Sea

I'm filled with doubt. Sometimes it creeps up on me and before I know it I'm lost at sea. But no matter how far I row, I always find my way back home.

Brendan Benson in "What I'm Looking For"

Self doubt can be a very destructive thing that is hard to battle alone. It is always helpful to have a support system that can pull you out of the ocean of doubt.

Family is More

Sometimes family is more than just the people under your roof. They're people who jump in head-first, who aren't afraid to make fools of themselves to help you, who don't hide their faces in shame if you fall down.

Alison Hendrix from Orphan Black "Community of Dreadful Fear and Hate"

Family is the most important thing in life. The bonds that hold family together is not determined by blood, by distance, or by time; it is only determined by the love in hearts. Family is those who will always be there for each and who only care about each other.

Why Not?

That’s the secret. The universe doesn’t shape legends. People and storytellers do. The details are just that; details. Things for the storytellers to clean up, after the fact. After a while the universe says, “Sure, why not? That’ll work.

A. Lee Martinez in “Helen & Troy’s Epic Road Quest”

If people tell a person he or she is a hero, or a villain, he or she may start to believe it. It is a rare person who truly knows who he or she actual is and who can ignore the opinions of the crowd. And in terms of legends, most people don't actual know the truth about their legends. They just believe whatever they are told.

Moving Without Knowing

Sometimes it's hard to just keep going, but faith is moving without knowing. Can I trust what I can't see to reach my destiny. Forget the fear it's just a crutch that tries to hold you back and turn your dreams to dust. All you need to do is just trust.

Fireflight in "Unbreakable"

We cannot control everything that happens in our lives, so sometimes it is necessary to just loosen our grip and hope that everything turns out okay. And if it does not turn out okay, we at least have to hope that we are strong and wise enough to carry on.

Planted Trees and Shade

There's nothing I admire more than someone planting trees under whose shade they may never get to sit.
Others will. That's what counts.

Ty Burley and Muriel Donnelly from "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"

Most of us will not live long enough to see how our contributions have aided humanity but that should not stop us from contributing. When we pass away, the wealth and possessions we have acquired will be useless to us, but our legacy is the wisdom and kindness we showed to others.

Before the Battle Begins

If we wage a war fearing loss, we surrender to defeat before a battle has begun.

Ichabod Crane from Sleepy Hollow "Novus Ordo Seclorum"

This quote ties in with the saying that if you look for the positive you will find it and if you look for the negative you will find it. It is really amazing how much your perception can influence the world around you.

Life Finds A Way

The history of evolution is that life escapes all barriers, life breaks free, life expands to new territories, painfully perhaps even dangerously, but life finds a way.

Michael Crichton in “Jurassic Park” audiobook

There is so much evidence that supports the claim that life finds a way; for example a forest can replenish after a fire or a person can survive a disease even against the heaviest odds. It is truly miraculous to witness how much life will fight in order to survive, even in the most brutal environment or circumstances.
