There were times when experiencing pain to the fullest was desirable. For one thing pain sharpened his senses and kept him alert. Pain was humbling as well. It encouraged a man to keep his perspective; helped him to remember life was precious. He knew that pain was a vital part of the human condition.

If there is not pain and death in life, then I believe we would not appreciate how precious and beautiful life is. I also think that going through live in a numb state is not living at all.
